I had the opportunity to be a part of Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit 2023 and, let me tell you, it was amazing!
It was what I needed and more. On one hand, it was empowering, inspiring and gave me a great confidence boost. On the other hand, it provided cool side events, mentoring sessions, workshops and a great career fair.
My top three talks were:
Feeding the Future: The Evolution of Agriculture through Technology by Katarzyna Wrzesińska - Lead Software Engineer
Keynote speech: Pay It Forward! by Aleksandra Ochwat - Product Support Engineer / GE Women’s Network Leader
Where IT meets fusion reactors: How do we help create artificial Sun on Earth? by Agata Filipczak - Programmer Analyst
On top of that, I had the opportunity to visit the General Electric Aerospace building and took a tour of their laboratories. Mindblowing. Especially for me who has no background in Mechanics but am a Science enthusiast.
I also got the chance to visit the Netflix office and had a nice chat with the engineers who work there. I even met a Peruvian engineer. I mean, what are the chances?
Meeting women leaders in industries such as Aerospace, Artificial Intelligence, Gaming, Supercomputers and Research was a refreshing experience. Somehow, being part of these fields no longer feels unattainable. I’m not saying it’s easy but they showed us it’s possible and it’s an option for us too.
For students, this is particularly important. Meeting these amazing women and role models is a game changer. Chances are you’ll be motivated to pursue your career goals in technology. That’s why I recommend attending a Women in Tech event. It creates a space where women feel supported and included.
In the tech world, you usually are the only woman in the room. But at a Women in Tech conference, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded women. This is an excellent opportunity to remind yourself that you’re not alone! There are other women who understand the challenges you’re facing and who can become your role models. Let’s be honest. Some challenges are unique to women. You’ll find people to relate to and can look up to when in the majority.
Something else I noticed is that in women-oriented events, we tend to talk more freely about our issues at work, about our biases and struggles. That brings us together, making us feel more connected and optimistic about the future.
So here’s 🥂 to the events that empower women, to the people behind them and to the people who made a difference in our lives!
